Before seeing Las Vegas I only knew that it was pretty big and there were lots of casinos. Driving into town quickly learned that there is more to see than just slot machines.
A building shaped like a pyramid with the Sphinx in front...
The Statue of Liberty next to a casino modeled after New York City, complete with a variety of sky skrapers and city buildings.
The lion from the beginning of movies (under construction behind him).
Everything was larger than life...
....or about the same as real life. We liked the Eiffel Tower.
I took all of these pictures as we drove down the main road right when we got to town, so they are the best I could get from a moving car. This place looked pretty fun, with pirate ships and an island look to it. Since it was quite far from our hotel we never got to see it up close, but was still fun to look as we drove by.It took quite a while to figure out how to get to our hotel and Caleb was VERY ready to get out of the car. He entertained himself with his toothbrush and the top of a nose sucker, which turned into a couple of his favorite toys on the trip. Here he decided to just hold them up for a while.
We finally made it to our hotel and went to the top for a good view.
Here's a picture of the roller coaster that's on the New York City casino.
There was a pool on the top of the building as well, which, sadly, we didn't have time to take advantage of, but at least Caleb got to lounge for a bit. He was always the center of attention pretty much wherever we went on the trip. We went for a short walk, which turned into a long one, before heading to bed. A Hawaiian fire dancer performing.
A view at dusk from a walking bridge over the main road.
Caleb enjoyed the walk in the sling, but after realizing that it was quite hard to get from place to place and being out far longer than planned, he ended up in the stroller and eventually fell asleep. If you've seen the movie, Oceans 11, these are the fountains that they are standing next to at the end of the movie. The show was pretty amazing, with music and lights! The pictures don't even do it justice.
We both decided that we do NOT like Vegas at night (except for the buildings and these types of shows), but enjoy it much more during the day. By the time the show was over we pretty much ran home to escape the night life that quickly went further and further downhill. We made it back to our hotel and went right to bed....looking forward to getting out of town and into nature!

This is what I get for not checking blogs more frequently... I just got home today from 4 days in Vegas for work!!!!! Gah! I think we may have been at the same area of the strip on the same night even! I'm so sad I could have seen you!
ReplyDeleteOh, and you missed nothing at the pirate one... It was pretty skeezy. The wynn was really pretty inside as well as the bellagio (who does the cool fountains). I got some pretty shots of the fountains from the other side looking towards the Eiffel tower.
