CAMPING!!!

It's been FAR too long since we've been camping and Caleb was good and ready, so this year we reserved a site, packed everything up (my least favorite thing about camping), and had a great few days!
Can you tell who was excited?!
We loved the campground right near a lake.  Caleb decided he needed to rest even though we'd barely started to walk down the trail.
A stump quickly turned into a stage!  He invited daddy to join him and they jammed for a while!
Matt and Caleb immediately loved the beach with sand and huge rocks!  I love this picture with Caleb on the little rock on the right.
It was pretty crazy how low the water was with the drought.  Crazier to imagine the lake full.
Lots of exploring and just enjoying being together on this trip!  It was too windy and not quite hot enough to swim the first evening but we had fun and enjoyed the beauty.
This shows the erosion under the trees with the roots all hanging down.  They looked like you could just pull them over but even the ones almost totally eroded were still stuck tight.
Loved watching Caleb find fun everywhere!  Brought back lots of my own favorite memories camping with family!
 Silly Daddy and son time!
I love this picture!  You can see how Caleb just LOVES His Daddy and has so much fun with him, and how Matt just LOVES his son and has such a great time playing with him!  They were doing a mad lib here.
 Just my cutie
He LOVED talking loud all the time since we were outside and I think he kind of noticed an echo in the trees.  For a bit he even YELLED up into the trees some silliness!  I truly think he'd live outside all the time if we let him.
Going potty in the tent...so many fun things while camping!
He tried the roasted hot dog and even a marshmallow but he liked everything cold the best.  The funniest was watching him eat his hot dog sideways.
"I want it WHITE!"...."One more please?"
I got LOTS of snuggle time on the trip!
SO fun for me to think back to so many memories by the campfire and now enjoy some new ones with my own son!  I was dreading the cold of night, but we lucked out and it didn't get too horribly freezing.  We all slept well and were ready for a fun day!
It was still breezy which kept it feeling less than hot, so we didn't spend a lot of time in the water.  No worries, though,  We had the beach!  I had fun introducing Caleb to the joys of digging holes in the sand, filling them with water and making mountains and roads!  He quickly turned it into a Peppa Pig moment of "jumping in muddy puddles!"
Matt quickly focused in on making a sand castle.  My guys, enjoying the beach!  It was great, too, that we had the entire area to ourselves for most of the time!
The shows the whole area.  We were thankful for the huge rocks that made some shade to rest in so we didn't have go walk way up the beach every time to the trees through the thicker sand.
No, he's not throwing an adult tantrum...just being a great daddy and imitating the end of every Peppa Pig show when they all fall on the ground and laugh with their feet and arms flailing!
The end result of the castle...
 ...and the monster destroying it!
I think I swam once, mostly just cuz I thought I might regret it if I didn't.  It was just too cold and wavy to really enjoy it.  Matt was actually IN the water the most.  Caleb at least floated out a bit!
 More snuggles
This is a good one to show our campsite.  Since it was during the week there were only maybe 3 other families around.
Before we left, we explored down the beach a bit and found another huge rock!  Caleb and Matt danced and jammed some more!
At the end of this section was were I think we spent a day last summer.  It's the place where we took the picture of Caleb singing into the reeds and playing his bat for a guitar.
Another view of the beach we enjoyed on this trip.  Maybe next time it will look totally different...fuller, or emptier.  We had a great trip and can't wait for the next one!  Caleb is still talking about it, especially his "airplane"(the tent) that he flew to Chicago.  Great memories!
